Do you have a photograph of the crystal which was found, which is thought to be an indication of how the Vikings navigated. Apparently this is a polarising crystal, presumably Calcite.

Fascinating reports in this work. I recently found while diving in the Fort Bovisand area what might be a carbon/graphite crucible for pouring iron. I wondered if it might be known or recognisable to you if I sent you some pictures? Exeter museum think it might be Elizabethan, but I haven't yet had the time to take it to them to check it out. Best regards, Paul.

Timber or wood or any other objects found undersea has in itself stood the test of time. Exactly, restoration procedure should be handled delicately so as not to ruin the objects' surviving remains.

The State of Florida, USA has three very complete barrels and a portion of a fourth of the type described for matchlock #391, in their collections. these barrels all have the pintle/rest on the bottom with the ramrod hole through it. They are all of octagonal to round configuration and it was possible to remove the breechplug in at least one of them. I recently retired from the State as their Historic Conservator after 40 years of service. Most of my time there was spent working on shipwreck artifacts.

Mathias Holsby :
I imagine that the longbow was a more efficient weapopn than the gun until it became a repeter.
why not use the longbow as a complement to the musket? Why just abolish it?
It does make any sense!

By the 16th century England's demand for Yew had nearly annihilated the species in Europe. Guns were cheaper, lasted longer, greater effect on morale, required less training and physical standard to use effectively. It was also less that the longbow was abolished and much more about the changing nature of the society of England that made it unavailable to the crown forces.
